Weaning your baby
The first year of a baby’s life is a time of rapid growth and change. Just when you feel settled into a breastfeeding routine that works for both you and baby, you may begin to notice that your baby needs more than just breast milk to feel satisfied.
Around six months is a good time to introduce supplementary foods into your baby’s diet, such as Yumvita Infant Cereal with milk. Since this product is fortified with essential vitamins and minerals that will aid development, you will have peace of mind knowing that you are still meeting your baby’s nutritional needs. You can slowly decrease the amount of breastfeeds as you introduce new foods into her diet. Once the baby is fully dependent on solid foods and supplementary milk products – and no longer suckling from the breast – she is considered weaned.
The process of weaning can often be an emotional time for both mum and baby, primarily due to the special bond created by breastfeeding. As a result, mother and baby will both have to adapt to the new routine and find ways to retain a sense of closeness. Hugging and cuddling will go a long way in keeping baby comforted.
